Boston Harbor Now Appoints Aaron Toffler, J.D. as Director of Policy to Advance Vision for Boston Waterfront
Boston Harbor Now announced the appointment of Aaron Toffler as Director of Policy – a role that stands at the center of the organization’s work to enhance public access to the Harbor while protecting the region from the increasing risks and impacts of climate change.
As Director of Policy, Toffler will lead the development and implementation of policy initiatives at Boston Harbor Now. He will serve as a leading voice for the organization in advocating for an accessible and resilient waterfront in partnership with a diverse array of government, business, community, and nonprofit stakeholders.
“Effective policy comes from working in partnership with the many stakeholders committed to making our harbor more resilient, inclusive, and vibrant than ever before,” said Toffler. “I am looking forward to building on Boston Harbor Now’s well-recognized leadership around the most important issues facing our waterfront, working closely with neighborhood advocates, public officials, and the private sector to protect and improve our harbor for the decades ahead.”
“A key addition to our team, Aaron will play a pivotal role in helping to create a more accessible and resilient waterfront,” said Kathy Abbott, President and CEO of Boston Harbor Now. “As a trusted waterfront advocate and environmental lawyer, Aaron’s strong relationships with local neighborhood groups, state officials, and other stakeholders will help propel our efforts as we work to create a vibrant, 21st-century harbor”
Toffler comes to this role with an extensive background in environmental advocacy and education. Previously, Toffler served as Director of the Natural Cities Program at the Urban Ecology Institute; representing community groups working on environmental issues, specifically involving land use, open space, and development. He was most recently the Director of Environmental Studies at Lasell University. Toffler received a B.A. from Union College and a J.D. from Boston College Law School. Toffler currently lives in Needham, Massachusetts with his wife and two sons.
