Looking for a way to battle winter fatigue? The New England Boston Boat Show is right around the corner (February 9-17) at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. And so too is the 2019 boating season on Boston Harbor.
Late last year, The US Army Corps of Engineers issued a Section 10 General Permit for up to 103 recreational mooring permits for The Boston Harbor Islands. The Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation will begin installing mooring equipment this Spring around their islands which will include locations at Gallops, Peddocks and Georges Islands. In addition, Boston Harbor Now intends to apply for up to 15 moorings at Spectacle Island for a grand total of 118 new recreational moorings for the 2019 season and beyond. The moorings will provide new and unique opportunities for recreational boaters who have been looking for ways to access the Boston Harbor Islands Federal and State Park Area with their private vessels.
The moorings can be reserved on the DOCKWA Marine Reservation System. DOCKWA is a simple app that can be downloaded on your smartphone or online. The online application is still being completed and should be available for access by boaters in mid-spring via the Boston Harbor Islands website or from the Dockwa site and mobile app.
