Dear Friends,
2019 has been an exciting year of growth and transformation for Boston Harbor and Boston Harbor Now. Early in the year we followed up on our Port Conference with the release of Boston’s Working Port: Recommendations for the Future. We will be working with partners to implement some of the recommendations in the year ahead. In April, with leadership from our Steering Committee and MassDOT Secretary Pollock, we presented the Business Plans for New Water Transportation Services. The plans were well received, and we have been working with our partners on their implementation ever since.
There was lots to celebrate this summer. With increased investment in marketing and the help of good weather, we saw visitation to the islands increase by about 11%. Also contributing to this growth was increased free access for over 40,000 kids and families thanks to the support of many of you. We piloted new sold-out after hours programming to enjoy evenings on the Harbor. Finally, use of the Harborwalk continues to grow as new sections were opened at Clippership Wharf in East Boston and Pier 4 in the Seaport.
Thanks to the many interested businesses and institutions on the Harbor, we will have our largest Ice Sculpture Stroll and two barges for the Fireworks on New Year’s Eve. We hope you will join us on the Harbor to bring 2019 to a close.
Warmly,
Katherine F. Abbott
President and CEO
