Dear Friends,
May is a month to celebrate! Boston Harbor Islands National and State Parks are celebrating their 25th and 50th Anniversaries this year. The special anniversary program season kicks off on May 21st with free ferries to Spectacle and Georges Islands from Long Wharf and special programs at Christopher Columbus Park. On the evening of May 20th, we will help open the Red Sox game against the Seattle Mariners and light up the city skyline in blue and orange, so keep your eyes peeled for the Park’s anniversary colors shining around you.
Boston Harbor Now’s annual AAPI cruise will be happening in August, but we are excited to celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in May. Americans of Asian or Pacific Islander descent are the fastest-growing racial group in the country, and we hope that the Harbor and Islands are embraced by this community all year long. May is also Mental Health Awareness Month, and we hope every one of you can find your peace and your joy on Boston Harbor.
Finally, Boston Harbor Now is proud to be receiving this year’s Olmsted Award from Preservation Massachusetts for promoting our waterfront, Harbor, and Islands as part of this year’s celebration of Preservation Month. I am also extremely proud to be receiving the Justine Liff Spirit Award this month from the Emerald Necklace Conservancy for my lifetime of work in open space conservation, public-private partnerships, and increasing support for parks.
Come celebrate with us,
Katherine F. Abbott
