At the Friends of the Charlestown Navy Yard (FCNY) Annual Winter Warm Up, the Friends of the Boston Harborwalk (FBHW) were honored with the David Whelan Community Bridge Award. The Harborwalk advocates have been developing historic signage for the neighborhood and leading tours of the waterfront, including a kayak tour that launched from the Little Mystic Channel last September.
Mike Manning, Liz Nelson Weaver, and Sarah Ritch were on hand to accept the award on behalf of all members of the FBHW. “It is quite an honor to receive such an award and the recognition that comes with it,” said Mike Manning, who chairs the group that includes tour guides, a signage initiative team, and a clean-up team. “I’m truly privileged to be part of such an exceptional group of Bostonians.”
The award is named after a cherished Charlestown resident who was actively involved in the community (in numerous initiatives) prior to his untimely death in 2015.
